For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

King James Bible

You have heard the saying no money no honey right? This is in reference to the lack of sex or affection provided to men by their woman, if she feels that not enough money is present in the relationship for whatever reasons. Numerous pseudo experts have used certain statistics to repeatedly show money issues as being a major cause of marital break ups and often the major cause of other relationship issues. It’s not just whether the parties have or don’t have or what they haven’t done with it, but the statistics suggests that the approach to money is also a vital issue at the center of any relationship. This is why the bible passage takes an interesting position, when viewed through the lens of a pragmatist. After all IS money EVIL? Or like the bible alludes to, the LOVE of money being the ROOT of all evil. Keep in mind money is a physical manifestation of wealth; wealth goes beyond just money and into the realm of property, status, acceptance and value that society forces on us. Being rich as well, if using the definition of modern money gurus is not really wealth, because a lottery winner can be rich and not have wealth. Wealth is seen as generational; passing down over time and entrenching itself into the narratives and stories of modern societies. Modern day wealth teachers like Robert Kiyosaki, Jim Rohn etc., have taught that money is a tool to help you or I achieve a comfortable existence and do include wealth, but also freedom and being debt free. Not everybody who is rich is either debt free or possess true freedom in the form of time management or time for leisure activities or time to do whatever you want to do by yourself or with loved ones.

However, why people become attracted to the trappings of wealth or money is predicated on the value one places on the lives of the rich and famous. I once saw a poem that said ( sort of pulling this from memory)…being rich has made me smarter, taller, more handsome and able to sing better …” In this society (one dominated and originated in European based materialism over relationships) status is assigned to the wealthy and the powerful. Often power is associated with wealth and vice versa. These two combined to add value to the collective as well as the individual. And in this western society the majority of the wealth, at least as portrayed by the media is ultimately Caucasian males.
