Dawn of the planet of the Apes

This movie is a very interesting study in overstanding the cultural and imperialistic interaction between yurugu and the Afrikan hue-man. Napoleon Bonaparte once said “History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon.”  This has always been the European approach to history and ourstory and sets a basic foundation for their worldview as they go marauding across the planet, upturning and upsetting the natural order of other people’s lives. The great scholar and scribe, Chinua Achebe, in his book things fall apart, stated that… “Until the lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.” This is an indictment of imperialism and colonialism which, all invading and occupying armies do. Yurugu is very adept at disappearing other people’s culture, at worse. Minimizing and marginalizing them at best. By changing and altering people’s culture and stories, yurugu lays a psychological blanket over the truth. Yurugu has stated many times and in different variations, that there is your truth, my truth and the real truth. Over the last 500 years, yurugu has mastered the psychological propaganda of turning the oppressor onto a benign creature, who is embraced for some made up quality, designed to elicit sympathy; and the oppressed into something to fear, dismissed or marginalized. El Hajj Malik Al Shabazz once stated “The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”

Hollyweird is the center of all military and psychological propaganda and has being the leading voice and vision of amurdikkklan imperialism and neocolonialism. It is a medium for the telling of a yurugu friendly history at the expense of other ethnic groups. Most often it is the Afrikan ourstory, our Herus and S-Herus who suffers the distortion of a yurugu centric tale that highlights his benign or heroic personality and acts, over his natural aggressive personality and actions. The Afrikan continent has been and still continues to be the most invaded piece of real estate on earth and the people of Afrika, the most colonized, oppressed, raped, brutalized and marginalized. The movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes, introduces  the idea of this benign yurugu scientist, seeking to master a disease, that is a result of yurugu’s own lifestyle practices (study the cause of Alzheimer and most diseases) which accidentally when administered to its mother during her gestation period, resulted in the common Chimpanzee becoming “human like in thoughts and actions”. Forget the fact that most people know that animals have their particular intelligence, because those native intelligence, if not comparable to yurugu is not important. It is only those that are LIKE THEM THAT IS IMPORTANT AND ACCEPTABLE!  During the first movie, the focus was on the chimp Caesar and his morphing into a chimp that acts human like, while glossing over the experimentation conducted on similar simians in the name of science….in that very same movie. When Caesar, eventually broke the other simians out of captivity and waged a war for freedom, it was depicted in the most savage and mindless of ways. Showing the apes rampaging and murdering, and defeating the combined forces of the military, appeared to have a happy outlook. Keep in mind under the spell of yurugu’s fairy tale, his fight against his tribal oppression (ww1, ww2, the amurdikkklan revolution etc) was a righteous fight conducted for a noble cause, by noble men and women. Contrast with any freedom struggle against European oppression and imperialism, which are denigrated as uprising, mob incited riots and murderous rampage. Even the ones orchestrated from as far away as Washington and London, Paris and Berlin , are tabbed as such. At the end of the first movie, the impression was while the apes violence was animalisitc, while ignoring the violence of the police and state, they at least tried to show the reason and cause was to achieve freedom from oppression. Evey sentient species goal.

Until…the sequel…and the deeper psychological turn….for the apes and humans.

 

In the opening scene of Dawn of the Planet of the apes, we see a large party of apes, hunting deer in the mountains of San Francisco, 10 years after their revolt and subsequent disease pandemic that was wrongly blamed on the apes, instead of the scientific experiments gone wrong. The image of the dark visage of Caesar in tribal war paint, covering his face, was very dramatic and evokes a certain emotion.

The image of the Afrikan savage, hunting with primitive spears, should not be lost on those with the third eye open and who has the gift of discernment. Caesar has, by the strength of will and intelligence (that word again) has organized the various simian species into one ape colony, with the kind of organized structure, he no doubt “learned” during his growing years with the human family. Even early in the movie, the notion that the apes didn’t have their own natural hierarchy, but needed to utilize those of their former oppressor, was shown as a failing of their nature. Fast forward to the encounter with Carver, the ape hating, testosterone driven yurugu male, who encountered the savage apes/Afrikan,  in the persona of Ash and his best friend, and Caesars son… BLUE EYES! The scene showed Ash being aggressive and threatening towards Carver, as the primitive tribe is touted to always be. And in a reflexive response, only to protect himself, Carver drew his great equalizer and shoots Ash in the arm. Obviously Carver was not a good shot, considering the proximity of the apes. Perhaps a few lessons with any po-LICE force in North amurdikka, would have taught him how to shoot Afrikans better. The shooting of course drew a party of ape warriors, to the scene of the incident. There we observe, a standoff, between two alien cultures, whose narrative is that of the other being evil and to be hated. I am not going to go into this frame by frame, but to extract salient information and observation from the movie. It Is interesting that after chasing the invaders off their territory, Caesar suggested his old running buddy, soldier comrade and best friend Koba (a direct connection to Afrika) to follow the intruders and make sure that (a) they leave as they were ordered to and (b) find out what type of settlement they have and where they are living. There was a hope and belief among the apes that the human had destroyed themselves from in fighting after the flue died down and human civilization basically crashed. This encounter certainly changed that perspective and rightfully caused a great deal of concerns for those apes born under mankind’s rule, or were born later but were nourished with said same tales of abuse and violence. What was interesting was that of all the apes Koba harbored the most deep and powerful hatred of humans. He more than any of them, carried around his pain as a victim of the hateful experimentation, showing the scars all over his body and in his one missing eye. Well when Koba realized there was a large body of human close to their colony, he came back and passionately urged Caesar to attack them. It is also interesting that his was the only Afrikancentric name out of all the others, who had yurugu names.

This is where the image of Caesar becomes conflicting and fits the narrative of the noble savage that the hunter (yurugu) always rewrites in his history books. The one who is a warrior, but is willing to reason and enter dialogue with the colonial power. By all accounts, Caesar is strong physically, mentally and emotionally. His intelligence was great enough to forge one unified group out of a desperate species of apes and having them show allegiance to him. If anybody overstands the simian culture, they ONLY show obeisance to the alpha male. Yet this Alpha male is shown to possess a blind spot towards the human, based on his good years under their patronage, as an enslaved and caged animal, who was born into captivity. This is a sign of a freed slave, who still is attached to the plantation even while the chains were gone. This alpha male has a reluctant trust for the good will of mankind in the guise of certain people, who never shot them on sight. Throughout the movie, we see Koba seething, wanting to exterminate the hateful humans, who have never meant the apes any good. Clearly Koba has studied history and knows full well that a dead yurugu is a good yurugu. On the other hand, we see Caesar, the wisest and most Alpha of the males, who hesitates when he is faced with the notion of conflict with humans. Of course in the middle we have the benign, brave and oh so saintly Malcolm, who seeks to bridge the gap between the apes and human. Malcolm is the missionary, who comes to the apes with open arms, open hands and offers of trust/reLIEgion of getting along. During his overture to Caesar and the colony, we only see snippets of Carver, raging against the apes and the colonies leader Dreyfus, who never trusted the apes and has no compunction in wanting to attack them in order to create the civilized world that he yearned for. Contrast this with Koba and his sneaking, conniving acts, even to the point of plotting an assassination and coupe, in order to drum up the rage to attack a heavily armed human colony.

Koba represents the angry Afrikan, irrational in his rage and willing to sacrifice others for his own personal aggrandizement. At least this is what I get from the character. Keep in mind that the apes and human fought a five year war, before the humans starting fighting each other for an additional five years. It is inconceivable that apes on the intelligence level of humans, having fought a protracted five year war, never captured any form of arsenal and learned to use them. Also, while Koba may show a deep seated hatred of humans, to imply that he was willing to break ranks with the group, having the fore sight to assassinate Caesar and capture the loyalty of the apes, smacks of yurugu characteristics and savagery. However, this is attributed to the apes and is a backhanded attempt to paint all non yurugu species of possessing such devious and innate characteristic. The implication also is that during the five years of peace, Koba abides by the order and rules of the colony, but upon seeing mankind in all its triggered memories, all of sudden lose his discipline, in his urge to kill, kill, kill.  In watching the movie, we overstand that the colony wasn’t ran on vertical leadership, as much as collaboration, even though Caesar was in effect the yurugu model of a leader…from top down. He is often seen taking advice from the others, including Maurice the wise orangutan scholar.

In the events leading up to the attack on mankind’s colony, the movie shows the internal conflict between Caesar and Koba, who chomps at the bit and eventually breaks away from the colonies hierarchy to assassinate Caesar and lead the apes into a suicide mission. In the same vane, we see disagreement between Carver and Malcolm and even Malcolm and Dreyfus regarding how to best deal with the ape problem. Yet there was no fratricidal interaction between either one of those yurugu males. The pivotal scene where the savage apes attacked the colony head on, while enduring heavy artillery, including RPG’s, is reminiscent of the old movies, where the savage Afrikans would run willy nilly into the hail of machine guns and heavy cannons. Ourstory constantly showed that yurugu conquered Afrika, just like he did other non yurugu people, primerely by stealth and early morning attacks, while people were sleeping. By spreading diseases and infiltrating the leadership with spies and the harmful psychology of reLIEgion. By attacking defenseless women and children and not from frontal assault across the battle field. But yurugu has not nor will ever make the facts get in the way of a good story or a hollyweird movie.

The image of Malcolm, his woman and son, risking all to save Caesars life, reuniting him with blue eyes, who had followed Koba, for revenge, and even preventing Dreyfus from blowing up the whole invading ape army, is classic yurugu hero tale. Even though Caesar was the only one who could have confronted Koba, the yurugu as an hero was inserted, to show the gullible that the Afrikan…in the anamorphic image of the apes…cannot do anything of valor with out the assistance of his natural foe. This was succinctly put when Caesar, recovering in his former birth place, was looking at an old video of his handler. When Malcolm asked him who that was, he replied…“a good man…like you!”

The original fight for ape freedom against mankind’s savagery and evil, torture of animals to produce a synthetic drug, was simply reduced to the apes to primitive infighting and unnecessary attacks on a peaceful colony, that only wanted to rise above said primitiveness, by generating some electricity. At the end of the movie, or at least in the book, Caesar released all the remaining people. Gave them supplies to go with them, and lay waiting for the coming battle between the apes and the military, that had answered the distress call. The implication is that they will wait passively in San Francisco, for a new invasion forces, with their women and children ( Koba had sent for them, since he burnt down their colony in the assassination attempt). The implication with releasing the colony of mankind, was to instill in the gullible, that this was very noble on Caesars part. A very hug contrast to the heroes yurugu celebrates today. Hitler, King Leopold, Christopher Columbus, George Bush, Ronald Reagan, Ariel Sharron, King James..etc

Koba reminds me of the one RBG Afrikan among a group of passive/aggressive protesters, who fully distrust and hates yurugu, urges his fellow soldiers to annihilate him, because keeping apart has never prevented yurugu from encroaching into your space or territory. Caesar, was the semi-conscious Afrikan, not a full sellout…yet, but one who cannot extract himself from his past association with yurugu. Such a state, often stays the hand when a cruel decision needed to be made. These are the kinds of semi-conscious people, who instead of waging physical war, insists that Afrikan spirituality will strike the enemy down. The ape attack on the colony is reminiscent of the Watts and Detroit riot in the 60s and early 70s, the riots after King was murdered. The LA, after the Rodney King verdict. And this weeks riots after Michael Browns murderer was not charged. It is yurugu, through hollyweird reminding us that we are not capable in waging war against him, not because we lack the fire power he does, but because we lack the cohesiveness and intellectual organization skills engage him effectively. Yurugu has shown us that in his view, we can be easily pushed to run mindlessly into such things as fire hoses, bullets, tear gas and attack dogsm because we are primitive.

By using the narrative of the Planet of the Apes, he warns and reassures other yurugu, that the oppressed Afrikan personality if left alone, will utterly savage itself and each other.
