There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.

The quote of the title is attributed to William Shakespeare and is one of the clearest indicators of how the mind works from an emotional context.  Yes! Some may say the intellect is a mental thing and emotions are more heart centered, but we do not live in a world where one organ or one energy state is separated from another. Ours is an organic body that exist on the physical, and metaphysical plane, both working together to make up the whole.

The metaphysical is about knowing, substance, cause, identity, time, and space. Therefore as a man thinketh so is he; there is neither good or bad, but thinking that makes it so. The ancient Chinese had a proverb that states: “A man without a smiling face must not open a shop.” A genuine and freely given smile is a gift that is shared without toil or cost and also a gift honestly accepted that energizes and uplifts.

” I shall pass this way but once; any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. Yet the world is full of people who are selfish and self-seeking. The rare individual who unselfishly tries to serve others has an enormous advantage. He has little competition. The New York Telephone Company once made a detailed study of telephone conversations to find out which word is the most frequently used. And which word do you think it is?  it is the personal pronoun “I.” “I.” I.” It was used 3,900 times in 500 telephone conversations. “I.” “I.” “I.” “I.”

In a clinical study  done decades ago, it was noted that people may actually go insane in order to find, in the world of insanity, the feeling of importance that has been denied them in the harsh world of reality. There are more patients suffering from mental diseases in the western countries than from all other diseases combined. Nobody can answer what is the true cause of insanity. Some say it is organic and others say it is emotional. What we do know for sure is that certain diseases, such as syphilis, break down and destroy the brain cells and result in insanity. In fact, about one-half of all mental diseases can be attributed to such physical causes as brain lesions, alcohol, toxins, bad or unhealthy medications and injuries.

But the other half the people who go insane apparently has nothing organically wrong with their brain cells. In postmortem examinations, when their brain tissues are studied under the highest-powered microscopes, these tissues are found to be apparently healthy. Why do these people go insane? Retreating into a world of their own making in an attempt to find a space where their self-importance is not marginalized and where they can maximize their worth.  There is a need to have an anchor in peoples lives. Whether you are the Buddha or you are the lowest crack head on the block, we all hang on to something that keep us grounded. Just because you don’t understand it, it does not make it not so.

Just like the patient in the study on insanity, those of us who choose to stay in this world, still yearn to be appreciated….or appreci-loved. An honest and sincere appreciation makes one sit up taller, strider stronger and smile wider.  One of the most neglected virtues of our daily existence is appreciation. As children we learn more how to criticize than to complement. And as we grow up and in turn become parents, we somehow, neglect to praise our sons or daughters when he or she brings home a good report card, and we fail to encourage our children when they first succeed in riding a bike or reading a book. Or do something so simple only a child can appreciate.

Nothing pleases children more than this kind of parental interest and approval. Teaching a child the value of sincere complement starts with complementing them from the heart.

Likewise as we enter adulthood, lacking the joy of being appreci-loved, we constantly seek validation from material things or things with little to no intrinsic value. When we as adults deal with other adults we must practice the same desire to show honest appreciation and complement. For we never know who’s life we may save, that was drifting down a road of despair.

Most people enamored by their own sense of self importance become closed of to others as they bask in the isolation of their own little world. Securely enclosed in our own world we tend to ignore others and the things and value you can get from interacting with them. Because so many of us never grew up experiencing genuine appreciation and complements, we pass on cheap flattery and think this is all we need to give.  There is a difference between compliment and Flattery. Flattery is like counterfeit  money, it will eventually get you into trouble if you pass it to someone else. So what is the difference between genuine appreciation and flattery? Well, one is sincere and the other insincere. One starts from the heart out; the other starts from the lips out. One is unselfish; the other selfish. One is universally admired; the other universally condemned.

Flattery is cheap praise and should never be confused with genuine compliment. Yet if you are unable to complement someone, it is better you hold your tongue. For I would rather prefer to give nor receive cheap praise.

“Don’t be afraid of enemies who attack you. Be afraid of the friends who flatter you.”

Someone said it best….”Flattery is telling the other person precisely what he thinks about himself.”

It really does not diminish you to be genuine with people. Start with the people closest to you. This will give you much practice. A note of caution though. While your smile and your friendliness can be given freely, it should not be given cheaply nor allowed to be abused. Many reLIEgious minded folks misunderstand this. And many radicals dismiss it as weak. It is not weak to be happy inside. They mix up the childlike happiness with the happiness of the spiritual warriors. One is often seen as cute but can be dismissed by the cynical. The other is seen as unnerving to those with ulterior motives, or pleasantly pleasing by those who see little good in the world.  It is not weak to glow and let others see your glow. It is telling the world that you are undaunted by the slings and arrows this failing society throws at you.

Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth. —Muhammad Ali

The enemy within

“A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within.”

This has always been the case for civilizations as far back as Kimit, Kush, great Zimbabwe, Ghana, Khart Haddas, the Persian Empire, Greece, Rome, the Ottoman Empire, the Brutish empire and so on and so on.

Among the many reasons given for the destruction of these civilization or Empires, where the loss of their moral compass which usually follows the influx of foreign entities such as foreign cultures, ideas, people and merchandise. These things eventually become the dominant entity inside the dying Empire/civilization, hastening its demise. While a continent and therefore cannot be classified as a single entity, Afrika none the less suffers from the same fate of internal destruction from foreign infestation of cultures, ideology and materials that dominate the local ones.

Rest assured it was not the superior fire power nor the higher level of barbarism that made Afrika a current colony of Europe and Asia. It was our failure, then and now to accurately accept that each and every society on the continent is in a submissive position. Is placed in a submissive position and will always be submissive to imperialism of the European and the Asians. Nature abhors a vacuum and will willingly fill that vacuum as fast as possible.

Afrikan people have a vacuum of the retribution gene, in which they fail to practice protectionism of their culture and hence their legacy, because we are always having our hand out for a help up, instead of pulling on our own shoe laces. Afrika is the wealthiest continent and land mass on the planet. At times it seems as if there is limitless minerals and riches in the earth to sustain Europe and make Europe the economic giant it is today. Despite the fact many may say that if Afrika stands up and grabs its collective balls and take back possession of their wealth, it will not happen until each Afrikan country actually does that. Anything else is just talk.

The few countries and leaders who tried to do so, where stymied not by invaders…again..but from internal forces, who open the back door for the invaders to come in. When Hannibal Barca, had Rome cowering behind its gates and needed reinforcement from Khart Haddas, it never materialized because they were too busy back home being haters and denying him these things. Talking grimy about this war being a personal vendetta. These people choose to ignore the fact that Khart Haddas and Rome were battling for maritime supremacy in the Mediterranean before Hannibal was born.

When Thomas Sankara took over Upper Volta and renamed it the “upright man”, instructing the government and the people that hence forth they will feed themselves, clothe themselves and trade with each other, it was his alleged best friend, who eventually married to the daughter of the president of the Ivory Coast…another French Colony, who murdered him and plunged the country into a 25 year chaos. The invader forces came from the Ivory coast with French support.

When Nelson Mandela came out of Jail, he threw away the political and cultural investment of Steve Biko, Walter Sisulu, Pan Africanist Congress founder Robert Sobukwe and the countless dead and tortured at the hands of the animals that invaded ands settled the country, by allowing the devils to continue to control the military, judicial, legal and economic centers of the country. He even committed further sins by rejecting his greatest supporter as part of him coming out of jail. Along with a legacy of 10 million dollars.

Tanzanian farmers are facing heavy prison sentences if they continue their traditional seed exchange

In order to get developmental assistance, Tanzania amended its legislation, which should give commercial investors faster and better access to agricultural land as well as a very strong protection of intellectual property rights.

Today Afrika continues to freely hand over its children’s legacy to foreigners by failing to unite and develop from within, but would rather invite Europe and Asia to come in,purchase, lease to take lands at ridiculous prices, take out their wealth, invite criminals, death pushers and sex offenders to thrive openly to damage the women and children, through inoculations, pumping and dumping on their women and children and poisoning the people.

Part of the problem is rice was never a traditional crop or part of the traditional Afrikan diet

This is the by product of taking loans as part of structural adjustments…or bad predator loan agreement, where easy access to land and agriculture is demanded

I have been searching in vain for a video I saw on YouTube where hosts of Chinese and Japanese men are marrying Afrikan women from Kenya, Ghana and others, breeding them and then leaving them as sole support mothers. A position infinitely more difficult to navigate in Afrika than it is in North America.

Imagine such a thing as a whole flight crew on a Chinese airline? Have you pictured this as yet?

Being Trendy vs Self Expression

A trend is a general tendency or course of events (a warming trend). Examples of which includes following  current styles that are in vogue (It is the latest trend in fashion).

It is the general direction of something. When something is trending is something which shows a general tendency; i.e The magazine’s circulation is trending downward”. It’s when a people’s worldview undergoes a rapid increase in public interest or attention that tends to extend, incline, or veer in a specified direction. There are two very strong desires that motivates the hueman and that is the desire to be liked and the desire to do great things. These two desires are what drives civilizations, high cultures and social growth over many millennium. Due to ignorance and arrested development, we tend to confuse and cross the two desires, in such a way that people confuse the desire to do great things as a pursuit for likes, and the pursuit for likes as an achievement of great things. People into trending, confuses doing great things as a means to acquire power over things and people. While also confusing  having power over others as a way to engender likes. Both states tends to give a sense of accomplishment, which is misunderstood and misplaced, to the point where we end up “hurting the ones we love” and we do great things just so people can like us.

Aiming for dirt

The analogy, that teaches us to aim for the stars and in failing to hit the stars, miss and hit the clouds..or the top of the trees…has substances of overstanding for people who strives to aim for a high standard in life. Consequently aiming for a lower standard…the branch… earns one a hit on the trunks, if the branches are missed. It is the same principle as before, with a lower expectation and a lowering of the bar. Today, we neither aim for the stars or the top of the trees. Or even the branch, for that matter. Today in most societies, people aim for the dirt. Aiming for the dirt, earns one a comfort level, where effort is minimal and achievement is non existent. There seems to be this belief that if you aim for the dirt, you will hit it 100 percent of the time, while not fearing a risk of failure, criticism or disappointment.

Enter the way of the trends. When something is trendy, is when something is designed to appear over reaching and above the dirt. When your arrow is aimed around the root of the tree, just above the dirt, it appears unique and is something to celebrate. Such is the way when standards are low or even non existent. Thus trending for likes is evident on social media, where social media is life and genuine life is moth balled and regulated to a displeasing and unappealing aspect of existence. The confusing of achievement and likes is at the intersection of social trending, where souls are lost and intelligence is dumbed down.

Overstand that this is not an originally organic thing. To entirely over look the real world for a digital and fairy tale one. This phenomena creates generations of automatons which are predictive and produced by sinister mechanisms which created the notion of trending as a form of population and mind control.

An example of aiming for dirt…and i only use it here, because i was speaking on it last night with my friend, is how we like to celebrate and throw out the name of Mansa Musa as the richest man in the world. Black people throw that out without rhyme or context and in the next breath we hear crickets. The trend in this case is how our low self esteem makes us clutch at something unsubstantial as a self esteem builder. In pulling back to see the big picture, what i see is Ghana, Mali, and Songhai were just three of the greatest western African trading states. Beginning with Ghana as early as 300 c.e. and ending with the conquest of the Songhai by the Arabs of Morocco in the 16th century c.e., they dominated the trade of gold, salt, and merchandise between North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. Arab scholars and merchants as far away as Baghdad marveled at the wealth of these African states.

Why Mansa Musa was touted as unique above the other rulers of Ghana, Mali and Songhai, was due to his epic visit to the barbarians in Mecca, tossing gold around like a patron in a strip club. The barbarians not use to this wealth and extravagance entered this occasion as one of the greatest event a MUSLIM could ever do. The key word is Muslim, but not just any Muslim, but a Afrikan Muslim who also happened to be one of the first big time kneegrows that was flossing and blinging.

Keep in mind that the Arabs had been trying to penetrate into the interior of the Blackest Afrika, from before Europe learned to bathe. And it was only around 1200 AD, they finally figured out how to do it by converting lames like Mansa Musa into Islam, thus getting an insight and an inroad into the Afrikan interior. The wealth that Mansa Musa had was more the product of the line of rulers and the wealth of the nation he ruled than actual personal wealth by itself. Nothing comes out of a void. At least below the heavens. And the soil of Ghana, like the soil of many other Afrikan countries, even till today, has always been one of mineral wealth. Yet nothing is ever mentioned about other rulers in Ghana or any of the other kingdoms, because they never flossed like him, nor did they care to do so. Thus due to limited access and overstanding, by the Arabs for the area once called the GOLD COAST, he is praised as  the richest man on the planet. Afrikan kings before the infection of Islam, never ruled autocratically, but by the will of the society they rule.

Black people aim for the dirt in praising Mansa Musa’s journey to Mecca and the giving away of gold, as evidence of what is important. The example of greatness achieved. An example of how one can achieve “likes”, through doing great things. We become enamored by his story and fail to overstand that jewelery worn in ancient times, carried less praises and worship than they do today. Trend followers work from the outside in, instead of from the inside out. They do things for likes instead of liking to do things, for themselves and for their own personal growth.

Cutting straight to the heart

To be self expressive in the most natural of ways is to adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own. Those who practice self-expressiveness overstand that, they are not in this world to live up to anybody else’s expectations and everybody else is not in this world to live up to theres. Therefore putting limits on personal self expression by placing trending limits on everything you do, physical or otherwise, will spread into your work and into your life. Overstand that there are no limits to your growth. There are only plateaus, and you must never stay standing on the ground.  Standing on the ground aiming your arrow into the dirt affords you nothing but stagnation. You must go beyond the dirt, the trunk, the branches and aim higher than naysayers warn against.

And while aiming for the stars the bold and honest won’t fear failure. For it is not failure, but low aim, which is the crime. Throughout ourstory and his story the reward and fortune always favor the bold. These people overstand that in great attempts it is glorious even to fail. When one is honest with ones self and honest with your purpose. When one seeks to achieve great things honestly and not for power, one overstand that aiming for the stars is the truest expression of self. It is a goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at. Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it. Do not go out and look for a popular trend to follow.

“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves….Bruce Lee!

To quote an old adage of Buddhism….“Empty your cup so that it may be filled; become devoid to gain totality.” A greater mistake than to anticipate the outcome of the engagement, is to not put in any effort in an engagement. Such a state is due to fear of the results and the toil it takes to enter into that engagement. One ought not to be thinking of whether it ends in victory or defeat, but let nature take its course, and your purest efforts and desires will shine at the right moment.

Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do. The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering. Being a trend setter is infinitely more rewarding than being a trend follower. And the trend that last through the ages are the ones that are not subject to “likes” in order to feel important. The trend that carries substance are the ones that allows us to achieve great things that benefits and not harm. That is being powerful without using use power to achieve likes.

Such is the way of overstanding the difference between being trendy vs practicing authentic self expression.

….”and, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” ...The King of Salem to Santiago (from the Alchemist)
