The legend of the irritated Genie of Soufeese

On August 22, 1791 Boukman or Dutty Boukman conducted a ceremony in a place in Haiti known as Bois Cayman which began the Haitian Revolution. The following is considered to be “Boukman’s Prayer” taken from that ceremony.

“Good God who created the Sun which shines on us from above, who rouses the Sea and makes the Thunder rumble; listen! God, though hidden in a Cloud, watches over us. The god of the white man calls forth crime but our God wills good works. Our God who is so good commands us to vengeance. He will direct our arms and help us. Throw away the likeness of the white man’s god who has so often brought us to tears and listen to the liberty which speaks in all our hearts.”

Dutty Boukman was a Jamaican “scientist” in the long lineage of Afrikan “scientists”. From long before Kimit became a high culture, from as early as when our overstanding of the energies that runs through us all and how these energies also remained in the shadows that we know recognize as our ancestors; and greater still, in the Orishas, those especially gifted with powers to channel the words and messages from the other side, have warned us of the coming storm.

Long before the Ma’afa became a reality, the interior of the Afrikan continent had been off-limits to the savages from across the seas. Those ignorant of ourstory truly believed that our ancestors were docile, and had quietly laid down our spirits of resistance so that we could be chained, beaten and enslaved by a being more terrible than anything imagined before.

We resisted and killed them in droves. We capsized their sailing dungeons and made the waters red with their blood.  The women were prominent in the resistant to yurugu’s violent and hateful attacks. In fact in many instances, the women were the ones who often invoked the spirit of resistance in order to strengthen the hearts and limbs of the men, for the final killing blows. Many of these high priestess would join the ranks of the resistors.

And for a long time every imperial invasion was met with equal and greater counter attack. It all ended when the Mobutu and traitors among our people conspired to show the savages how to bind and block the spirit of resistance from decimating the scourge of Europe.

Men who wrestled the traditional ways and knowledge from out of the hands of the women.

This spirit of resistance was what Dutty Boukman brought to the Haitian people. This man came from Jamaica….a slavery colony notorious for sending the most rebellious to be broken before shipping them out as domesticated animals. How was he able to come from Jamaica to Haiti? Was it through the portals?

Only those who know, know.  And those who overstand, overstand.

What we do know though was the spirit of resistance remains in the people of Haiti, never mind the number of Mobutu’s on their shores. We will always have Mobutu’s among us.

An Afrikan proverb states “the one who leaves her ancestry is like a slave”

But I overstand that the ones who ignores their ancestors are an impediment to our fight against Yurugu and his evil. Thus the spirit of the Irritated Genie, once invoked again, must include those Mobutu, their children and their children’s children.

Water is life! It is from the most primordial of “waters” that life springs. The waters are stirring in the people.

Those who know, know. Thos who overstand, overstand.

We are supposed to have established or re-established the shrines and temples, long ago. The same temple or shrine that were desecrated and torn down, when our people were betrayed and thus enslaved. Many are being touched by the Orishas and as well, by the spirits of the ancestors.

Right now our people are engaged in throwing spiritual “bullets” at each other. Engaging petty “rituals”to pursue fame, fortune and carnal knowledge. Engaging in blood rituals with their traditional oppressors and with the few Mobutu’s, who still retain knowledge of the “science” of an Afrikan past. They are doing this instead of venerating the ancestors and rebuilding and reestablishing the traditional shrines and practices.

The irritated genie once again invoked, has already stirred the waters and disrupted and consumed both the belligerent and the disobedient. The pantheon of Orishas, who resides in the waters are rising.

“The irritated genie of Haiti looming out of the bosom of the sea appears, his menacing face rouses the waves, stirs up storms and his might hand smashes or scatters their ships.”

When we leave our ancestry, when we stop venerating our ancestors and the Orishas, we become enslaved and ourstory becomes “myth and legends” to be ridiculed and ignored.

Watch the waters. Watch the signs. The waters are churning. Its coming to a boil. The spirit of the irritated genie is on the rise!
