“Civilization comes at a cost of manliness. It comes at a cost of wildness, of risk, of strife. It comes at a cost of strength, of courage, of mastery. It comes at a cost of honor. Increased civilization exacts a toll of virility, forcing manliness into further redoubts of vicariousness and abstraction”
― Jack Donovan
If one was to reduce masculinity and manhood to its most primal and base state, man then only exist to fuck, fight and eat. However, an aspect of man that separates him from the four legged mammals, the avians in the sky, and the aquatic animals, is his constant evolution of self. One aspect of this evolution is to strive to make things easier for himself, for his woman and for his offspring’s. Thus I say men builds civilization and women comes in later, to put up the curtains. This does not diminish women, for her role is not to build civilization, but to add colour and nurturing to it. As builders, maintainers and even destroyers of civilization, men’s evolution from fucking, fighting and eating, becomes protector, provider and presider of himself, his domain and the society he builds and lives in.
Thus his society is termed civilized. One of man’s purpose and duty in a civilized society, is to protect a woman from herself. Women bears the legacies of man and civilizations life. in her natural state, a woman has a keen connection to nature and the spirit world. One could say if she allows her head to constantly be in the clouds to the point she forgets to keep her feet firmly planted on the ground. She becomes a danger to herself and others around her. A woman in her natural state, strongly desires to chase after “butterflies”. She often fantasies about things that are fleeting and out of her reach. Which tends to land her in troubling situations. This is where the authentic masculine would to step in. At least in the past.
Imagine a man and a woman high on a mountain, overlooking a gorge or deep valley. So deep, one has to peer into the abyss, trying to see its end? And in so doing have the abyss stare right back at you. A mans curiosity will have him standing at the edge with the idea to make a quick assessment of its depth, “conquerability” and his own skill set, effectiveness and strength in knowing the breadth of this challenge. Taking a quick look down, knowing his intent is to climb down from the mountain top to the bottom of the valley, he does not dwell too long at the edge. Because he knows prolonged peering over the edge can entice one into mistakes. However long or arduous the task. The woman on the other hand, keeps peering over the cliff, leaning too far, because she gets caught up so much in the “beauty” of the scene, she loses herself in the gazing, mesmerized, she becomes hypnotized by the scene. She leans so far over the edge, she finds herself in danger of losing herself. Unable to regain equilibrium. Equilibrium is balance. But balance is not necessarily equilibrium.
Now the man has to pull her back from the edge, ensuring she does not fall over. This is the purpose of our protection of women. Not just from outside dangers, but from the rashness that comes from the lack of perspective. Perspective requires a rational state of seeing the world. Today this form of masculinity and strong masculine protection, is called toxic and controlling. Today this form of masculinity is an endangered state of being, spread eagled on a bed of nails, with ideological vultures circling overhead as masculinity is to be sacrificed to the deity of gynocracy.
Gynocracy is a society ruled by female dictatorship, whose emotionalistic state is the antithesis of rationality. Some may say a society with too much logic or rationality lacks the color of emotion. Yet such a society can still function better than one ran on pure emotionalism with little or no rationality. Gynocracy is supported by weak men, who are jealous and fearful of both masculinity and surprisingly, femininity. For what man seeing a woman in danger to herself, allows her to continue on a self destructive path? There is not an ounce of masculine protectiveness in him. Unfortunately, with the way society is today and due to the course gynocracy is taking us, even masculine men have found themselves reluctant to intervene in women’s irrational behaviours. The risk of being accused of sexual harassments, patriarchy, toxic masculinity and a bevy of made up charges, designed to emasculate men, as made men preferring to look the other way. We may talk about it amongst ourselves. over a “cold brew”. But authentic masculinity sees very little rational in putting ones health and life at risk for those who will turn around and savage us. More important, for those who do not respect our masculine essence.
It is men’s responsibility to bring back authentic masculinity. A masculinity of competence, intelligence, healthy competitiveness, assertiveness and productivity. Inauthentic masculinity, wears women’s dresses, tries to take a woman’s place, in society, the home and in the femininity, that aberration fights her for cosmetic space and blames her when he falls short of his confused purpose.
“Men cannot be men—much less good or heroic men—unless their actions have meaningful consequences to people they truly care about. Strength requires an opposing force, courage requires risk, mastery requires hard work, honor requires accountability to other men. Without these things, we are little more than boys playing at being men, and there is no weekend retreat or mantra or half-assed rite of passage that can change that. A rite of passage must reflect a real change in status and responsibility for it to be anything more than theater. No reimagined manhood of convenience can hold its head high so long as the earth remains the tomb of our ancestors”
